Intel Core 2 Duo T5500

2C/2T · 34 W

The Intel Core 2 Duo T5500 is one of the first Core 2 Duo notebook processors, launched on August 28, 2006 at $209 alongside the T5600 as a lower-cost entry to the 65 nm Merom family. It runs at 1.66 GHz on a 667 MT/s front-side bus with 2 MB of shared L2 cache and a 34 W TDP, and was offered as a socketed Socket M chip and as a 479-ball BGA package. Early units used the full Merom die, while later ones used the smaller Merom-2M die (L2 stepping); only the L2-stepping units support Intel VT-x virtualization.

Notes
Windows 11 is not supported: version 24H2 and later require the POPCNT and SSE4.2 instructions, which Merom (SSSE3) does not provide. Windows 10 (64-bit) is the newest Windows release that will install. Current 64-bit Linux distributions still run on this processor. Not a supported ChromeOS Flex platform.
