Intel Core 2 Extreme X7800

2C/2T · 44 W

The Core 2 Extreme X7800 brought Intel's Extreme Edition branding to notebooks when it was introduced on July 16, 2007 for the Santa Rosa Centrino platform. The 65 nm Merom dual-core runs at 2.60 GHz with 4 MB of shared L2 cache on an 800 MHz front-side bus within a 44 W thermal envelope, and was priced at around US$851 for notebook makers. The 2.80 GHz Core 2 Extreme X7900 joined it later in 2007.

OS support

Windows: Windows 10
Linux: UbuntuFedoraArch Linux
Notes: Windows 11 is out of reach: the chip is far below the 8th-generation floor on Microsoft's supported-processor list and its platforms offer no TPM 2.0 or Secure Boot. Windows 10 and the mainstream Linux distributions still install, because they are built for the x86-64 baseline, but the CPU lacks SSE4.1, SSE4.2 and POPCNT, so any software that requires x86-64-v2 or newer will not run. ChromeOS Flex does not cover hardware of this era.
