Intel Core 2 Extreme X6800

2C/2T · 75 W

The Core 2 Extreme X6800 was the flagship of Intel's first Core 2 desktop lineup, released in July 2006. The 65 nm Conroe dual-core runs at 2.93 GHz with 4 MB of shared L2 cache on a 1066 MHz front-side bus within a 75 W TDP, and its fully unlocked multiplier lets enthusiasts raise the clock beyond the shipping frequency. Intel priced it at US$999 in quantities of 1,000.

Notes
Windows 11 is out of reach: the chip is far below the 8th-generation floor on Microsoft's supported-processor list and its platforms offer no TPM 2.0 or Secure Boot. Windows 10 and the mainstream Linux distributions still install, because they are built for the x86-64 baseline, but the CPU lacks SSE4.1, SSE4.2 and POPCNT, so any software that requires x86-64-v2 or newer will not run. ChromeOS Flex does not cover hardware of this era.
