The M2 Max is the largest single-die chip in Apple's M2 generation, announced in January 2023 for the 14- and 16-inch MacBook Pro and later the Mac Studio. It keeps the same CPU cores as the base M2 but roughly quadruples the memory interface and multiplies the graphics hardware, which is what allows configurations of up to 96 GB of unified memory. Two GPU variants shipped, a 30-core version and a 38-core version, and only the larger one could be ordered with the full memory capacity. Its die is also the building block for the M2 Ultra, which joins two M2 Max chips over Apple's UltraFusion interconnect.
