AMD Ryzen Threadripper 9980X

64C/128T · 5.4 GHz · 350 W

The Ryzen Threadripper 9980X is the 64-core, 128-thread flagship of AMD's Threadripper 9000 Series (Shimada Peak) for high-end desktops, unveiled at Computex 2025 and shipping from July 31, 2025 at $4,999. It combines eight Zen 5 chiplets with a 6 nm I/O die and stays on the sTR5 socket and TRX50 platform, so it can drop into existing Threadripper 7000 motherboards, with quad-channel DDR5-6400 RDIMM memory and up to 80 PCIe 5.0 lanes. It is unlocked for overclocking and boosts up to 5.4 GHz.

Notes
AMD officially lists Windows 11 64-bit, Windows 10 64-bit, RHEL x86 64-bit and Ubuntu x86 64-bit for this processor. Microsoft's Windows 11 24H2 supported-processor list predates the Threadripper 9000 Series and does not name it, while the 25H2 list names the Ryzen Threadripper 9000 Series; no separate 26H2 list has been published, so the 25H2 status is carried over. Fedora and Arch run on Zen 5 with mainline kernels.
