The Intel Core 2 Duo T9800 is a top-tier dual-core mobile processor from December 2008, a late speed bump to Intel's 45 nm Penryn line on the Centrino 2 platform. Two cores run at 2.93 GHz with 6 MB of shared L2 cache and a 1066 MHz front-side bus, still within the standard 35 W mobile thermal envelope, which is what makes the clock speed notable: it reaches near-desktop frequencies without moving into the Extreme Edition's higher power class. Enhanced Intel SpeedStep drops the cores to 1.6 GHz and then 800 MHz when demand falls, and Deep Power Down cuts idle consumption further. The instruction set covers Intel 64 and SSE4.1. Intel supplied it in a 478-pin micro-FCPGA package for Socket P and as a soldered 479-ball micro-FCBGA version, and it was aimed squarely at mobile workstations and high-end desktop-replacement notebooks.
