Intel Core 2 Extreme QX6800

4C/4T · 130 W

The Core 2 Extreme QX6800 is a Kentsfield XE quad-core for LGA 775, released in April 2007 at US$1,199 as the successor to the Core 2 Extreme QX6700. Like other Kentsfield chips it places two dual-core 65 nm dies in one package, each with 4 MB of L2 cache, and runs at 2.93 GHz on a 1066 MHz front-side bus within a 130 W TDP. As an Extreme Edition it has an unlocked multiplier. It was followed a few months later by the 3.00 GHz QX6850.

Notes
Windows 11 is out of reach: the chip is far below the 8th-generation floor on Microsoft's supported-processor list and its platforms offer no TPM 2.0 or Secure Boot. Windows 10 and the mainstream Linux distributions still install, because they are built for the x86-64 baseline, but the CPU lacks SSE4.1, SSE4.2 and POPCNT, so any software that requires x86-64-v2 or newer will not run. ChromeOS Flex does not cover hardware of this era.
