Intel Core i3-3229Y

2C/4T · 13 W

The Intel Core i3-3229Y belongs to Intel's Y-series, the lowest-power branch of the 3rd-generation Ivy Bridge mobile lineup, created specifically so that Windows 8 tablets, detachables and very slim convertibles could be built without a cooling fan. Its tiny thermal budget forces a conservative, fixed operating frequency, which trades peak responsiveness for silent operation and a small mainboard footprint. Intel positioned these parts against the ARM-based tablet processors of the era by offering full x86 Windows compatibility in a comparable power envelope. In practice it appeared in a small number of 2013 hybrid devices before Intel's later Core M line took over the same role more convincingly.

Notes
Ivy Bridge (2012-2013) shipped with official Windows 7 and Windows 8/8.1 support and is also supported on Windows 10. It falls far below the 8th-generation floor of Microsoft's Windows 11 supported-processor list. Ivy Bridge lacks AVX2, BMI1, BMI2 and FMA3, so it does not meet the x86-64-v3 baseline required by RHEL and AlmaLinux 10, although Ubuntu and Arch Linux still run on it.
