The Intel Xeon D-1577 is the top sixteen-core member of the Xeon D-1500 family, a Broadwell-DE server system-on-chip launched in the first quarter of 2016 for dense and power-constrained infrastructure. Sixteen cores with Hyper-Threading give 32 threads at a low 1.30 GHz base that turbos to 2.10 GHz, served by 4 MB of L2 and 24 MB of shared L3, and the whole SoC fits inside a 45 W thermal envelope on Intel's 14 nm process. Unlike a socketed Xeon it is soldered down in an FCBGA1667 package and integrates the platform controller functions, two 10 Gigabit Ethernet ports and 32 lanes of PCI Express 3.0 on the die, which lets builders design a complete single-socket server without a separate chipset. The dual-channel memory controller takes ECC DDR4-2133 or low-voltage DDR3L-1600 for up to 128 GB. That combination of high thread count, ECC memory and very low power made the D-1577 a favourite for microservers, storage appliances, network security platforms and home-lab virtualisation hosts, and Intel listed it at 1508 US dollars in tray quantities.
