Intel Core i7-980

6C/12T · 3.6 GHz · 130 W

The Core i7-980 is a six-core, twelve-thread desktop processor built on Intel's 32 nm Gulftown die for LGA 1366 and X58 motherboards. Released in June 2011 at 583 USD, it runs at the same 3.33 GHz base and 3.6 GHz turbo as the Core i7-980X Extreme Edition, but has a locked multiplier and a slower 4.8 GT/s QPI link. It uses triple-channel DDR3 memory and has no integrated graphics.

Notes
Windows 11 requires 8th Gen Intel Core or newer, so this processor is absent from Microsoft's supported CPU lists for 24H2 and 25H2, and no separate list has been published for 26H2. Windows 10 is supported. Mainstream Linux distributions run on it, although builds that require the x86-64-v3 (AVX2) baseline do not, and ChromeOS Flex accepts any 64-bit x86 processor.
