Apple A5

2C/2T · 1.0 GHz

The A5 was Apple's second in-house application processor, introduced with the iPad 2 in March 2011 and later used in the iPhone 4S, the fifth-generation iPod touch, the first iPad mini and the third-generation Apple TV. It paired a dual-core Cortex-A9 CPU with a dual-core PowerVR SGX543MP2 GPU that Apple rated at up to nine times the graphics performance of the A4. The original 45 nm die (S5L8940) was later shrunk to 32 nm (S5L8942), and a cut-down single-core 32 nm version (S5L8947) shipped in the revised Apple TV.

OS support

Notes
The A5 is an Apple-designed SoC, but it never shipped in a Mac and cannot run macOS. It is supported only by Apple's embedded platforms: iOS 4.3 through iOS 9.3.5 (iPhone 4S, iPod touch 5th gen), iOS 9.3.5 on the iPad 2 and iPad mini, and tvOS on the third-generation Apple TV. Windows, ChromeOS and the mainstream Linux distributions are not supported.
